Bear Lake Adventure!

The girls have been wanting to "go to the beach" all summer, so on Labor Day we went to Bear Lake.  As we were driving up the canyon we realized that the weather was not going to cooperate with our plans, but we decided to continue on. The north beach is the only accessible beach because the water has been so high, we drove around, found a place to park and carried all of our supplies to a spot to set out our picnic. Evelyn immediately jumped into the water and started splashing around, Sophia was a little more trepid , but was content to sit on the towel and watch her sissy. Content, that is, until the wind picked up and became harder and harder.  Pretty soon the wind picked up sand and water and we frantically gathered our belongings and rush to the cars. 

Our beach trip was cut short and we ended up stopping by a yogurt shop for a treat and a place to get out of the wind and rain.

As Evelyn told us on the drive back down the canyon, "That was such an adventure!" 

Yes indeed, that was such an adventure!

Back To School!

The biggest event in August was the beginning of a new school year!

Kindergarten

Mrs. Coburn @ Providence Elementary

Evelyn has been looking forward to starting kindergarten for a very long time and it finally came. She had laid out her outfit the night before, and made sure her backpack was stocked and ready to go. We went to buy brand new "school sneakers" a few days before the big day and she couldn't wait to try them on. Finally, the day arrived and she was ready.

We walked into the big, brick school building together and embark on journey of the next twelve years for my little schoolgirl.  It made it easier knowing how excited she is to start learning, reading and "being smart";  but walking out and leaving her behind was harder than I expected and I couldn't stop the tears from rolling down my cheeks.

A few days later she brought home her first batch of homework and settled down to work on it.  She really is a smarty! The night before school started Uncle Max came over to give her a blessing and he blessed her, among other things, to be smart.  Well, this apparently stuck out to Ev because she came home and told me that doing homework will help her to learn how to be smart and she loves kindergarten because she learns so much.

You will do great things kid, and I'm positive that you will become smart and grow and learn and I'm so lucky to be your mommy to see you progress on this journey.

Big Day!

Evelyn's enthusiasm rubbed off on Sophia and Little Miss B was just as excited for her first day of preschool! I started working at Little Wonders Learning Center in July and the girls had been coming with me, but today was the first day that Sophie would be with Miss Mendi and Miss Amidee in the Little Learners Class!

Cookout!

Aunt Sarah and her family invited us up to Mantua for a cookout/camp out with their family. We couldn't stay the night, but we did go up to eat. While we were preparing dinner, Max was setting up the tent and the strap of the rain cover snapped back and hit Max right in the eye, he immediately thought his eye popped out, but we quickly assessed that it was still in the socket, but was filling up with blood so I drove him to the Brigham City ER.  They checked him out, gave some pain med and told him to schedule an appointment with the opthamoligist.  It all turned out just fine in the end and his eye healed.

My dad has been living in American Fork and so we spent the day with him for his birthday.

The County Fair

I love the fair.

It might have something to do with being a smell person. I associate memories with smell and whenever I go to the fair I am reminded of all of the twenty - or so- times I have been before. The smell of smoke, cotton candy, hot dogs and pretzles. I love being able to take my girls and people-watch, smell the smells and of course, see the animals, which is the best part, especially when you have a five year old that is convinced she is going to get a calf!  She was also convinced that she was going to ride on the ferris wheel. She had discussed it with her uncles and they had a plan, so we walked over to the midway to get tickets and stand in line. The closer the line got to the actual ferris wheel the more and more nervous she became until she looked up at me and said, quite matter-of-fact, "I think I will go when I am six". So, we went on the kiddie roller coaster and giant slide instead!

Providence Splash Pad

Pioneer Day Parade

Emily and I took our kids to the Pioneer Day parade in North Logan.
I remember the parade as a kid, dressing up as a pioneer and being on our ward float. It was fun to take the girls and see people that I recognized and spend time with my sis!

  When Emily and Russ come up from Utah Valley to spend the weekend in Logan, we love spending time together and the girls love snuggling with Elliot. Sophia loves making him smile and giving him toys and books and they are fascinated by his funny, little baby mannerisms.

Camping!

We have been talking about camping for awhile and we finally found a weekend that worked for all of us.   Max went up early to claim a spot in Logan Canyon and when we all got there we set up the tents, prepared tin foil dinners, made s'mores, talked, laughed and had a great time! It was Sophia's first time camping and both girls loved sleeping in the tent, playing in the dirt and exploring the "island" in the middle of the river with Uncle Adam.

Swimming!

Since Adam and Hillary have memberships to the Sports Academy, it is always fun to use their guest passes to go swimming. The girls had a blast splashing and "floating", and Elliot even took a dip!

Back to School Dinner

In preparation for Evelyn's first day of kindergarten we celebrated with a back-to-school dinner.  I got the idea from a website I follow, of a mom who has a big shebang before school starts.  I thought it would be a fun tradition to start and so we picked out scrapbook paper for the banner and made the centerpiece.  We served salmon and steak, spinach salad, rice pilaf, fresh fruit and yummy dessert. Grandma Kari gave the girls each a necklace, Evelyn's said "Big Sister" and Sophia's said "Little Sister".

Happy Birthday to my beautiful 3 year old! For your birthday we had an animal birthday party in Nibley.  We also had so much fun playing at the Splash Pad! You are a fantastic kid and you make me laugh every day!
